Bukhansan National Park (Dobong) (북한산국립공원(도봉 지구))

Last minute decision today, and it was the best decision I have made in a long time. I had an amazing time hiking to a few places at Bukhansan National Park. Bukhansan literally means “big mountain in the north” in Korean. It’s also called Samgaksan Mountain. Don’t ask me why, because I really have no idea. I managed to climb over 50 flights of stairs today. That’s way more than I have in a long time. There are 1300 kinds of animals and plants living on this mountain, however, I didn’t see any animals, which is kind of disappointing because I happen to love animals. I’m thinking it’s just the time of year, so I am hoping in the spring to start hiking even more. The mountain has so many trails and sites to see. There are several Buddhist temples but, I only managed to see two. Because I didn’t decide to go hiking until the afternoon and there is a rule prohibiting hiking at night, I didn’t see as much as I wanted to. I guess this gives me something to really look forward to in the spring!

To get to Bukhansan by Subway,

take Line 4 to Gireum Station exit 3, then take either Bus 110B or 143 getting off at the last stop.

or Line 3, exit 1 at Gupabal Station. From there you take Bus 704 and exit at Bukhansan Mountain entrance bus stop
